Product Update Format - Advanced Spreadsheet

  • Updated

Manage your product data with DistributorCentral's comprehensive, all-in-one product data spreadsheet format!

Product Update Method(s)

The Advanced Spreadsheet must be uploaded to the Bulk Product Manager in your DC account.

Spreadsheet Upload Requirements

  1. Must follow the Advanced Spreadsheet format.

  2. Must export a new spreadsheet from DistributorCentral before applying and uploading product data updates to DC.
This helps to avoid over writing current data that is not reflected in older spreadsheets.

  3. Must include a complete list of your products every time a spreadsheet is uploaded
Because of how our importer functions, if you don’t include all your products in the spreadsheet you upload, any products that are not listed will be removed from our database.

Data Definitions

Rows in the Advanced Spreadsheet

In the Advanced Spreadsheet one product will have multiple rows. Each row will be assigned its own "Row Type" to allow you full product customization in a single spreadsheet.

A Row Type depicts what data fields are available to complete. When you select a row type, cells for data fields that are not relevant are blacked out while the cells that are relevant remain empty so you can quickly find where to add your product information.

Row Types include:

  • Product
    • Product row types have base product data, like product name, number, and pricing.

  • Shipping
    • Shipping row types only have fields associate to Product Shipping Data available. Fields like Ship Qty, Weight, and box dimensions are included in the Shipping row type.

  • Part
    • A part is a physical variation of you base product. Things like different product colors, lids, straws, etc. are all considered "parts". When using the Part row type, you'll be able to add Part id, name, description, pricing, etc.

  • Charge
    • Use the Charge row type to add additional costs that should be added to the base price of a product, if the customer selects it.

  • Location & Decoration
    • Location & Decoration row types include details about your products' imprint details.

Product Price in the Advanced Spreadsheet

When adding price to your products via the Advanced Spreadsheet follow these guidelines:

  • Do all the product parts have the same pricing?
    • If yes, set the product price's Unit of Measure to "Each"
    • If no, set the product price's Unit of Measure to "As Low As - Each" and fill in each part's unique pricing.

What type of products does this work best for?

Suppliers who have complex products are a good fit for the Advanced Spreadsheet!

If you offer more customization options than just Product Colors, Apparel Sizes, and Decoration Information then this spreadsheet is the Product Data Update Format for you.

All of the following customization options are compatible with the Advanced Spreadsheet:

What type of products does this NOT work with it?

The Advanced Spreadsheet is a comprehensive format and can handle most any product type. However, if you have thousands of products in DC you may find this spreadsheet to be overwhelming to update.

If you have questions whether the Advanced Spreadsheet is the best solution for you, please contact the DC Product Team.
